Open the "Mix" window in Pro Tools.
Click one of the "Insert" slots at the top of the vocal track you want to equalize.
Choose the Digirack EQ from the drop-down window that appears. Choose the four-band version of the equalizer. This will insert a four-band equalizer onto your vocal track.
Click on the Digirack EQ plug-in that appears in the slot to open it.
Set the low-frequency band between 60 and 200 Hz. Decrease the gain of the low-frequency band to take away low-end rumble from the vocal track. This will add clarity to the vocal. The higher you set the frequency, the more low-frequency content it will remove from the vocal. However, setting the frequency too high will make the vocal sound thin.
Set the midrange frequency band at approximately 3 KHz. Boost the gain of the midrange frequency band to increase the clarity of the vocals. A small boost will usually be sufficient in this frequency range. On the other hand, decrease the gain of the midrange frequency band to make the vocals sound softer and breathier.
Set the midrange/high-frequency band to 5 KHz. Boost the gain of this band to enhance the presence of the vocals. Decrease the gain of this band to take away presence from the vocals.
Set the high-frequency band between 10 and 15 KHz. Boost the gain of this band to add air and breath to the vocals.
