How to Hook Up a Behringer Mixer to an M-Audio Pro Tools Recording Studio

The Behringer audio equipment company sells several different mixers that you can connect to Pro Tools as surface controllers. This allows you to adjust the mixing faders and knobs within Pro Tools from the Behringer device. You can connect your mixer to Pro Tools by first connecting the device to the M-Audio audio interface included with the software. This is a hardware box used to connect all hardware to the program.

Instructions

      Insert a MIDI cable into the "MIDI Out" jack on the back of the Behringer MIxer. Insert the other end of the cable into the "MIDI In" jack on the M-Audio box included with Pro Tools.
      Insert a MIDI cable into the "MIDI Out" jack on the M-Audio box, then connect it to the "MIDI In" jack on the mixer.

      Connect the M-Audio box to your computer through the included USB cable. Turn on the device.
      Plug the Behringer mixer into an electrical outlet and turn it on. Start up your computer.

      Open the Pro Tools audio software on your computer. Select the "Setups" menu and open "Peripherals." Click the "MIDI Controllers" tab. Click the first drop-down menu under "Type." Select your Behringer mixer from the list.

      Click the drop-down menu underneath the "Receive From" option. Select "Pro Tools Input 1."
      Click the drop-down menu beneath "Send To." Select the "HUI" option. Click the "OK" button.

      Click the "MIDI" tab and select "Input Devices." Check the box next to your Behringer mixer in the input list.
