An alternative rock station, 107.7 hosts concerts for bands like Jack Johnson and the Dave Matthews Band. From Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., Dr. Drew Pinsky hosts the radio show Loveline. Loveline allows callers to ask questions about sex, addiction and other issues facing young adults. The radio station has also hosted live musical acts on a show called EndSessions since 1997. KNDD became an alternative music station in 1991, at the same time that Seattle bands Nirvana and Pearl Jam broke out. In 1995, the station was number one in the Arbitron ratings; it was the first alternative-music radio station in the area to gain this ranking.

Founded in 1974, 102.5 is Seattle's only classic rock station. This CBS-owned station hosts the Bob Rivers Morning Show. Radio Time describes Bob Rivers as "the best-known rock and roll radio DJ in the greater Seattle area." He is well-known for his parodies of popular songs, which are often mistakenly attributed to "Weird Al" Yankovic.

KEXP 90.3, the University of Washington college radio station that goes by the tagline "where music matters," has been broadcasting since 1972. In 2000, the station was the first in the country to offer uncompressed CD-quality music online, available to listeners 24 hours a day, seven days a week. KEXP is a public, non-commercial radio station supported by listener donations. The station plays a wide range of genres, including alternative rock, electronic, world, roots, jazz, hip-hop and blues. KEXP station is most notably credited with providing early airplay for Nirvana, aiding their success.
