How to Turn a Samson M15 Into a Cordless Mic

Wireless hand-held vocal microphones were once the reserve of high-end stage productions and professional singers. The development of wireless technology advanced rapidly and became more affordable from around 2005, and since then, all manner of affordable wireless appliances have appeared on the market. Wireless-ready microphones have been available for some time, but if you own a vocal microphone that suits your style, you might wish to make it wireless-ready, rather than trade it in for a newer model.

Power off the microphone and detach the XLR cable from the base. Depending on the brand of cable, it may be necessary to depress the small ridged lever on the side of the connector, in order to disengage the locking mechanism.

Connect the wireless transmitter unit from the wireless kit to the base of the microphone. The transmitter is a cylindrical object about the size of an AA battery. There will be a male XLR connector on the top surface. Plug the connector into the base of the microphone, ensuring that the locking mechanism clicks into place.

Connect the wireless receiver base station to an output device, such as a vocal amplifier or PA system, using either the XLR or 6.3mm output. Power on the microphone first, followed by the wireless transmitter. Then switch on the wireless receiver unit. Ensure the volume of the output device is turned down to zero, then power it on. Gradually increase the volume while speaking into the microphone until the speech is audible.
