How to Use Samson Q2U Mic

The Samson Q2U microphone connects directly to computer via a USB cable. The device works with virtually any digital recording program and performs as an analog microphone would. Users need to install several drivers on their computer before using the Q2U. They also need to adjust several audio settings. Once installed, you can record with the microphone with just a few minutes of setup.

  1. Microphone Installation

      Insert the small end of the USB cable into the bottom of the Q2U. Insert the other end of the cable into an open USB port on your computer. Flick the switch on the microphone toward the "On" position.

      Turn on your computer. A popup will appear stating that Windows has found new hardware. Wait as your computer installs the new drivers required to run the Q2U. Click the "Start" button and then select "Control Panel." Select the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon.

      Click the "Audio" tab. Click the drop-down menu next to Default Device and select the Samson Q2U. Click the "Sound Recording" tab. Make sure volume slider has not been set to zero or a very low level. Move up the slider if necessary.

    Using Q2U

      Insert your headphones plug into the jack at the bottom of the Q2U. Make sure the headphone plug sits securely in the jack. (

      Open a digital recording program on your computer. Select "File" and then choose "Open." Choose the audio project you want to use with vocals.

      Create a new audio vocal track in the program. Select the "Mono" setting for the new track.

      Sing into the microphone while watching the audio level meter on the track. Click the red circular recording button to begin recording. Click the "Stop" button to end the recording.
