Connect a microphone or instrument directly to the DSP110 for use as a preamp or direct box prior to connection with a PA. The DSP110 includes XLR and 1/4-inch connectors for both microphones and instruments, as well as a level select switch and phantom power for use with condenser microphones. A low-cut filter is also included to remove subsonic frequencies from microphone connections.
Protect mains speakers from feedback by connecting one or more DSP110 units between the PA mixer and power amplifiers. Use XLR cables to connect the main output from the mixer to the input of the DSP110, and another to connect the output to the power amplifier. Using a DSP110 with a monitor send is configured similarly, though with 1/4-inch phone plugs instead of XLR connectors.
Power on the DSP110 to begin its automatic search mode for feedback, which is its default mode. The audio signal is scanned for signs of feedback signal and narrow filters are applied automatically, ideal for handheld mics moving around the stage.
Program the DSP110 to learn problem frequencies for static microphone setups -- drum microphones, for example -- prior to a show by pressing and holding the "Filter Learn" button until the five parameter LEDs light up. Adjust the number of filters used for static feedback suppression -- the default is 9 -- then press the "Filter Learn" button again to activate the learn cycle, which will run for 15 seconds. After a pause, the unit will return to the filter menu. The permanent filters are set, and any remaining filters will return to automatic search mode.
Use dynamics processing by adjusting gate and compressor settings. The noise gate threshold can be set manually by pressing the "Gate" button and using the "Up" and "Down" buttons, or a learn mode can be enabled like the filters. Press and hold the gate button until the five parameter LEDs light up. The gate's indicator LED will flash and the level of the background noise will be displayed. When the LED goes out, the threshold level is set +2 dB above the background level. Compressor parameters are adjusted by pressing the "Compressor" button once to change density and a second time to change speed.
Use the DSP110 to program a speaker delay when using speakers separated by a significant distance, as without it, there could be an audible echo or comb filtering and phase problems. Press the "Delay" button to select units, either milliseconds, meters or feet. The DSP110 will remember your choice. Use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to change the value.
