Grants for Specialized Music Sound Recording are available to support individual artists and bands, including record companies or independent producers who specialize in artistic, contemporary and alternative music that does not serve the mainstream commercial market. Only music professionals are eligible to apply. Sixty percent of eligible costs covering recording, production, manufacturing and marketing, not exceeding $20,000, can be awarded.
Professional Musicians (Individuals) Classical Music is a grant which supports professional individuals, groups and orchestras to develop their own work in classical music within the community. Deadlines for applications occur twice annually on 1 March and 1 November. New artists or established musicians can apply. Grants aid subsistance, transportation and project costs. Sixty grants are issued anually, ranging from $3,000 to $20,000.

The Canada Music Fund (CMF) was set up by the Department of Canadian Heritage to improve accessibility to a wide range of music, increasing opportunities and helping to develop skills within the music profession. The fund offers seven component grants which are administered through different funding bodies.

Factor provides finance to support growth and development of the record industry in Canada. It is an organization which sponsors radio broadcasters as well as administrating two grant components of the Canada Music Fund (CMF): the New Musical Works Component, which helps creators of music to produce and record music, and secondly, the Collective Initiatives Component, which supports the music recording industry, offering financial assistance for conferences, award shows and musical showcases. Factor spends $14 millon per year to support the Canadian music industry.

The Socan Foundation was set up in 1992 by a board of directors comprised of music professionals, to help promote a deeper understanding of music creation and the creative endeavours of its music creators. They administrate the Creators' Assistance Component of the Canada Music Fund (CMF). This fund provides financial assistance to group initiatives by lyricists, songwriters and composers to further develop their musical projects. Eligible projects include workshops, seminars and performances. Individuals are not eligible to apply. Socan issues over 300 hundred grants annually, ranging from $500 to $12,000. Applicants can apply online.
