The Joliet Latin Music Festival happens annually in late September. In 2010, the festival celebrated its 15th anniversary and featured acts such as Fat Joe, Franky J and Xtreme. The Latin Music Festival raises funds for the Spanish Community Center, a nonprofit community organization that is based in Joliet. Located inside Harrah's casino in Joliet, Stage 151 brings local music from across the Chicago metropolitan area to a fun and intimate venue. Bands play every Friday and Saturday night and the style and energy aims for diversity. All shows are free of charge. Most of Joliet's bars and clubs with live music events are located in downtown Joliet between West Jefferson and East Cass Street. These venues include the Chicago Street Bar and Grill, The VEN U and Maneuvers. Among these venues, music lovers can find a wide array of rock, dance music, jazz and alt country. Founded in 1959, The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra provides an opportunity for talented junior high and high school students from Joliet and beyond to play in a professional quality orchestra. It also gives audiences the opportunity to see impressive and varied classical music performed in a concert hall setting. The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra performs a number of concerts each year with a season that begins in November and concludes in June (as of 2010).
