How to Merge Audio Files in Logic Pro 8

Logic Pro 8 is a professional multi-tracking and music-editing program, like a portable recording studio in a single computer. Available only for Apple computers running Mac OS X, Logic allows you to record, mix and produce music from scratch, or edit exiting audio files. When mixing, you may find that you want to combine, or "merge," various audio recordings in order to simplify your mixing process. By merging different files, you can reduce the number of individual regions and mix larger audio portions together simultaneously.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Logic Pro. To access the software, click your “Hard Drive” or “HD” icon in upper right corner of your desktop, select the “Applications” folder and then select “Logic Pro 8” from your list of applications.

    • 2

Click “File” on your menu bar at the top of the screen and then “New” from the drop down menu to create a new music project. Enter a name for your project in the “New Project” window and click “OK.”

    • 3

Open your “Arrange” window. Click “Window” on the menu bar at the top of your screen and select “Arrange” from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Drag your desired audio files from your hard drive directly onto any blank audio track, using your mouse. Your audio tracks, or recording spaces, are indicated in your left column with names like “Audio 1” and “Audio 2.” Just drop your audio files into the horizontal space directly to the right of the track name. Your files will appear as colored, horizontal bars on the time line, and once these horizontal bars are in the program, they're referred to as "audio regions." You can import MP3, WAV, AIF or M4A files, in addition to other standard audio formats.

    • 5

Drag your audio regions so that the second one begins exactly where the first region ends along the horizontal time line, connecting the two regions. If you have multiple files, connect each one in this manner so that all of your regions appear like one long, interconnected horizontal bar. To do this, just click the audio region with your mouse and continue to hold down the mouse button while dragging the region into the desired position.

    • 6

Hold down the “Shift” key and use your mouse to click each audio region that you want to merge. Click each region only once to highlight it.

    • 7

Click the “Merge” button in the upper-right corner of your window. Your files will then merge into a single region.
