Install AmpliTube on your computer. Insert the installer disc into your CD/DVD-ROM drive, select the installer icon (appearing on your desktop) and follow the on-screen prompts. In addition to installing AmpliTube as a program in your "Applications" folder, the installer will place the appropriate plug-in file inside your "Audio Units" folder, allowing you to automatically access it from within Logic.
Connect a guitar to your computer. You can use any analogue instrument, but electric guitars work best. To connect your guitar, use a USB guitar cable (which features a USB connector on one side, and a 1/4" TRS cable on the other side), or an audio interface (external sound card) with a standard guitar cable.
Open Logic Pro 8 and open your Audio Preferences menu by selecting "File > Preferences > Audio." Select your USB device (indicated by the name on the interface or cable) from the "Device" pop-up menu, so that Logic will recognize your guitar as your primary input.
Create a recording track. Click the "Track" button on your main project window and select "New." When the pop-up menu appears, click the bubble appearing beside "Audio." Audio tracks are recording layers for analogue instrumentation, whereas software Instrument tracks are designated for digital instrumentation. When you successfully create your track, a long horizontal space will appear across your screen.
Access your AmpliTube window. Click the "Window" menu at the top of your screen and select "Mixer." When your virtual mixing board appears, locate your new track on the channel strip (indicated by the same number that appears in the left column on your main project window) and click "Inserts." Roll your mouse to the "Audio Units" option and select "AmpliTube 3" to access your AmpliTube window.
Set up your virtual amplifier. Use the knobs on your screen to adjust individual parameters such as volume, pan (left to right positioning), treble (high frequencies), bass (low frequencies) and release (the speed at which your strummed notes fade away). To navigate between different factory settings, click the "Preset Browser" button. To save your own settings, click the "Save" button and enter a name.
