Open Logic Pro 9. Create a new project by selecting (File > New) on the menu bar, which you can find at the top of your screen. A navigation window will appear asking you to select a name for your project and enter other basic information, such as the tempo and key. You can use Logic's default settings or you can tailor the project to your own specifications.
Select "Track" on the menu bar and click "New." When prompted to select the track type, click "Audio," then click "OK" in the lower right corner. A track is a recording space that appears on your project window as a long horizontal bar. If you layer multiple tracks on top of one another, you can create layers of music using guitars, drums and bass.
Click "Window" on your menu bar and select "Loop Browser" from the list. A new window will appear featuring a list of all of your loop (sample) categories, such as "Rhythm and Blues" and "Drums."
Click any loop category to see a list of the available samples. To hear what a sample sounds like, just click it once. Navigate all the samples in your library until you find one you would like to use in your project.
Click any sample on the list and drag it directly onto the track that you just created, using your mouse. The sample will appear as part of your project. It will look like a rectangular shaded region inside the track.
Click "File" on your menu bar and select "Import" if you want to add samples from outside Logic. You can import audio files such as MP3s, AIFs and WAVs directly into your project. Use any audio file as a sample. If you want to find files specifically intended for sampling, visit a free loop website such as Looperman, Loopasonic or Free-Loops (see Resources).
Create a second track to begin layering your samples. For example, if you placed a piano sample on Track 1, you can add a drum sample on Track 2 to give your melody a percussive accompaniment. Layer as many samples as you like. To repeat a sample -- in other words, to make the audio file play multiple times in a row -- click the upper right corner of the rectangular shaded region and drag it to the right.
