How to Convert WMA Lossless to AAC

Because Windows Media Player doesn’t have a “Convert to AAC” feature, you must import the WMA (Windows Media Audio) lossless file into another program to convert it. Since AAC is the default audio format for iTunes, one of the ways to convert a WMA lossless file into an AAC file is by using iTunes. You can use other programs for converting a WMA lossless file to AAC also. All of these audio programs can be downloaded and installed on your computer free of charge.

Instructions

  1. Using iTunes

    • 1

Download iTunes (see Resources.) Install the program and open it.

    • 2

Click “iTunes” and select “Preferences” if using a Mac. Click “Edit” and select “Preferences” if using a PC.

    • 3

Click the “Import Using” button and select the “AAC Encoder” from the menu that opens. This will ensure that all files imported into iTunes will be converted to the AAC audio format.

    • 4

Import the WMA lossless audio file into iTunes by clicking “File,” and then “Add to Library.”

    • 5

Browse through your computer files and select the WMA lossless file. Then click “Choose" and the WMA lossless file will be imported into iTunes. Since the WMA format is not compatible with iTunes, it will immediately be converted to the AAC format.
