How to Wire a Dual CD Player

Dual CD players provide a compact solution for DJs or Karaoke operators who need to cue a second disc while the first is still playing. Combining two CD players into a single unit not only saves space, it also reduces the number of power supplies and interconnect cables required within a specific setup. Dual CD units have multiple outputs that need to be wired to the mixer correctly in order to function as two independent players.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the CD player from the mains supply. Ensure the mixer is powered off. Check the outputs on the rear panel of the CD player, looking for those that are compatible with the inputs on your mixer. Balanced outputs such as SPDIF or XLR are preferable, as they reduce noise.

    • 2

Connect a pair of cables to the input of the mixer's first channel. On the rear of the CD player, groups of output connectors will be marked "Master," "Deck 1" and "Deck 2." Connect the cables from the mixer to the "Deck 1" outputs.

    • 3

Connect a second pair of cables to the mixer and run them to the "Deck 2" outputs. Connect the outputs on the mixer to the inputs on the amplifier, and the amplifier outputs to the speaker inputs.

    • 4

Power on the CD player, the mixer, the amplifier and the speakers. Each CD player is wired through a separate channel, each with its own volume and tone controls, allowing blending between tracks, and fine control of the balance between the two players.
