Connect the 1/8-inch adapter to one end of the 1/4 cable. Make sure both components are stereo. Stereo tips have two rings, mono tips have one. If your CD player has a 1/4-inch line out or headphone jack, you do not need the 1/8-inch adapter.
Plug the adapted end of the 1/4-inch cable into your CD player's line out jack. If there is no line out jack, use the headphone jack.
Connect a 1/4-inch to XLR adapter to the free end of the cable. XLR is the standard connection type for a microphone. It consists of three large pins.
Turn down the gain and volume of the desired microphone channel on the mixer.
Plug in the XLR-adapted end of the cable to the desired microphone channel on the mixer.
Turn up the channel level, master leveland microphone gain slowly, until you get the desired output volume. On most mixers, you will be able to see an output meter. If you do not wish to connect the mixer output to an amplifier yet, the output meter will still allow you to monitor the signal level.
