How to DJ on a Website

You are the consummate audiophile; amongst your friends, your DJing talents make your parties water-cooler fodder all week long. A buddy suggested that taking your gift online would be a great way to get your brand noticed, entertain your social network connections and introduce yourself to a huge pool of possible new fans. You like the idea but it sounds complicated and expensive. But in fact, you can be the DJ on your own website radio station in just a few minutes, absolutely free.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your DJ name and sign up for your own free web radio station at Blip.fm. Input your social network accounts when requested in the process; this will help you grow your audience quickly. Enter your three favorite artists and the sign up is complete.

    • 2

Click on the tab labeled with your DJ name in the upper, right-hand corner of the page. Scroll down to and open "Settings." It will open to the "Preferences" page; this is where you set parameters for email notification, filter out videos and enable advanced features.

    • 3

Work through the tabs on the "Settings" page. "Services" allows you to link to any social network accounts you may have skipped at sign up. Upload your "Picture" so people can see who they are listening to. Add desired personal information like "Real Name" and personal website address on the "Account" tab; skip "Password" and build your playlist by linking to the URLs of your favorites on "Music." Get the code for a customized "Widget" you can add to your websites and social network profiles to help grow your audience.

Go to the drop-down menu on "Your DJ Name" tab and select "Station;" it's the first option. Cue the music your want to play by entering the desired artist or title in the search box at the top of the page. Ensure you have the track you want by clicking "Preview" in red on the right of the results. When you know it's right, click "Blip" in blue to the left of the results; you're on the air.

    • 5

Start growing your listeners. Click on "Invite Friends" in the center of the tool bar at the top of the page and import your email address book, enter select email addresses manually or grab the link to post on your favorite networks. Perhaps you'll opt for a combination of all three, but however you decide to do it, get the word out and you're a website DJ.
