Instructions

    • 1

Open a new Word document. Adjust your margins so that your left hand margin is a generous width of at least 1 ½ inches and the top, bottom and right hand margins are at least 1-inch wide.

    • 2

Use double line spacing to type up your biography.

    • 3

Choose a font like Courier New, Arial or Times New Roman with a font size of 12.

    • 4

Start typing up your notes into a readable biography. Organize your biography as a series of headed chapters based on particular topics or events in the subject's life, and present it in chronological order.

    • 5

Type page numbers at the bottom of the page and in the center. Write the biography title and your name centrally as a header.

    • 6

Type a title page in a separate Word document. Type the month and year it is written in the top left hand corner. Center the title of the biography in capitals and write the name of the author below it, and position this in the middle of the page. Place your contact details -- name, address, telephone number and email address -- in the bottom left hand corner. Include a literary agent's contact details in the bottom right hand corner, if you have one.

    • 7

Include a contents page listing your chapters beside corresponding page numbers.

    • 8

Don't send photographs with your submission in case the biography gets lost in the post. Photocopy your photographs and present mock-up pages to show the order of photographs, and write a brief description about each photograph below the image.
