How to Make an Effective Electronic Press Kit

Electronic press kits (EPKs) are digital versions of printed press kits, which have been used for decades. Electronic press kits and hard copy press kits contain essentially the same information, but EPKs deliver that information in a faster, more cost-effective manner. EPKs are digital resumes for your company and contain information about who the company is and what it does. An EPK can be an effective tool in expanding awareness about your business, but before you can send one out, you must first know how to create it.

Instructions

    • 1

Create (or hire someone to create) a company logo letterhead. This should be a high resolution graphic that sits at the top of each page of your electronic press kit. It's essential that it look professional though. Don't create an image yourself unless you have top-notch graphic design skills.

    • 2

Write a company history. Include how the company was started and any milestones that were reached during its history. This is also a good place to include short bios of the company's senior executives, including chief executive officer, chief operating officer, president and vice presidents. But try to keep this section and all following sections to a minimum for organizational purposes.

    • 3

Create a page that's dedicated to your company's products or services. Explain what your company specializes in and how much the products and services cost. Include high resolution pictures of the products or services, if possible.

    • 4

Create a page dedicated to any press you or your company have received. Include any and all awards, customer testimonials and positive reviews. Include positive media attention, such as newspaper clippings or interviews with your company's executives.

    • 5

Create an FAQ page with hotlinks to answers. Hotlinks are links that will take you directly to the corresponding link you reference. For instance, if you have a list of 25 questions, a reader should be able to click one question and be taken directly to that question's answer.

    • 6

Include a page with a high quality video summarizing your company and its goals. Include footage of employees and managers, as well as demonstrative footage showing your product or service at work.

    • 7

Create a Contact Us page. Include the company's phone number, your e-mail address and your branch's or business' phone number. Include the names of management, along with their titles and phone numbers.

    • 8

Combine the pages into a single .zip or .pdf file. This will make it easier for your recipient to download and view the electronic press kit as a single document, rather than forcing them to download a new document for each page.

    • 9

Upload the combined file to your company's website or send it as an attachment in an email to your recipient. If you send it in an email, address the recipient specifically. Do not write "To Whom It May Concern." Always write a short, but personal, message to the recipient and notify them that there's an attachment containing the EPK.
