How to Build a Percussion Cart

If you are percussionist who plays a range of percussion instruments, taking your instruments with you to an event can be even more tiring because you have to lug multiple pieces around. Instructions

    • 1

Cut the 2-inch piece of plywood so that it’s the size you need for your percussion cart. The ideal size for a cart is 4-by-2 feet, but you can make adjustments based on the number of instruments you want to transport.

    • 2

Rub the edges of the plywood with sandpaper so that they have a smooth finish. This piece will be used as your platform.

    • 3

Add additional support to the platform. To do this, cut plywood into four pieces to make up the sides of the platform. If you are making the 4-by-2 foot cart, you will need two 4-by-1-foot pieces of plywood and two 2-by-1-foot pieces.

    • 4

Nail the four pieces of wood on top of each side of the platform for support. The four pieces should look like wooden walls.

    • 5

Nail the 3-inch thick wooden handle on one end of the wagon. Rub with the sandpaper. The handle will be used for pulling the cart.

    • 6

Attach the rubber handle horizontally on the tip of the wooden handle using super glue.

    • 7

Measure at least 3 inches in from the edge and 3 inches up from the bottom on both ends of the long sides of the platform. Mark your measurements with a pencil. The marks represent where the wheels will go. Drill small holes on all four sides of the platform where your marks are located, and then screw in the caster wheels.

    • 8

Apply varnish to the wooden areas. Cover the cart with black or dark paint if desired.
