How to Start a Backyard Wrestling Federation

World Wrestling Entertainment is a billion dollar business and to start or run a business even close to that caliber would be nearly impossible. The next best thing is a Backyard Wrestling Federation. It will take a lot of work, but a backyard wrestling federation can become a fun and successful way to make money.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a location. Before you invest in a federation, you will want to make sure you have the space to hold events.

    • 2

Look for a location where a wrestling ring and audience is easily available. Try to make it your own property so you can access the property anytime.

    • 3

Go to your local city government office to gather the required permits if you are wrestling at a public location. Since most wrestling organizations feature storylines and scripted material, you will file your permit under a public performance.

    • 4

Create a name for your federation. You will want something that represents your league well and is catchy. The location can also be used in the name. For example, Crazy Connecticut Wrestling (CCW) or Backyard Bash’em Federation (BBF) are both catchy titles with easy to remember initials as well.

    • 5

Set up rules for wrestlers in your federation. This is a very important aspect of your federation because you do not want to find yourself liable for certain things and to make sure that you are all on the same page. You may even want to consider hiring a lawyer for legal waivers.

    • 6

Get the wrestlers to join your league. Hold auditions and meetings to establish creative names and gimmicks for your superstars.

    • 7

Have the wrestlers train together. This way they can learn each others pros and cons. Great matches can already be developed and you can see who will excel in the WWE ring.

    • 8

Set up an event and promote it. Use the Internet, flyers and anything else to make sure that all of the local wrestling fans are aware of the upcoming event. Sell tickets and run the event.

    Creating a Wrestling Ring

    • 9

Gather old tires. Usually you can get free tires from junkyards who will be more than happy to give them away.

    • 10

Stack the tires up in stacks of three. Place them close together and in a grid as big as you want the wrestling ring to be.

    • 11

Evenly stack mattresses over the top of the tires. Try to line this up and make sure all of the edges are covered.

    • 12

Place large pieces of thin plywood over the mattresses. The wood is what will help you create the classic wrestling mat sound.

    • 13

Layer two to three rugs over the plywood, this will help cushion falls onto the mat.

    • 14

Lay a tarp over the rugs and secure all fo the edges with a staple gun to keep everything in place. From there you can add turnbuckles and ropes if you would like.
