Join a wrestling school and attend on a consistent basis for at least eight weeks. Prepare to pay fees ranging from $200 to $1000 per month. Contact wrestling schools in your state or area to learn application and enrollment rules and guidelines.
Invent a wrestling character and personality that is so bold and vivid that fans and potential sponsors can't forget you. Give your personality a twist to make it stand out; for example, call yourself "Luke The Leather Man." Wear a leather vest and hat into the ring each time you are announced to complement your character name.
Become a member of an independent wrestling federation in your state or area. Submit a five minute DVD reel of wrestling highlights -- including wrestling stunts -- and your wrestling resume listing training and previous experience, for example. Joining an independent wrestling federation will set you up with match schedules and often air your matches on local or regional television.
Participate in a "dark match" sponsored by a wrestling scout. Dark matches are private exhibitions that are filmed in front of a live audience. The purpose of dark matches is to explore the liveliness of your character, your wrestling skills and potential marketability in front of a large audience.
Join a professional wrestling federation if your dark match is a success. Employ the services of a sports agent or personal wrestling promoter to help build your reputation and exposure in the professional arena. Ask your professional wrestling federation administrators for lists of promoters, agents and managers who may work with you.
