Contact the network that features the show for which you would like to apply. You usually can apply online. Look up the network's homepage and then search for the link to the particular program in question.
Find out the geographic region requirement of the show. Some shows feature only homeowners in specific regions of the country, typically based on the location of the network's studios. Some programs do take their shows on the road, but even then only typically accept applications from homeowners in the areas they plan to visit.
Fill out the online application if you meet the regional criteria. Some applications require photographs of the home or rooms in question. Take these photos with a good-quality camera and upload them to your computer. Follow the network's guidelines for the pixel size of the photos required. Upload the photos to the application form.
Shoot video of the rooms in question or the exterior of your home, whichever is required by the network, if you meet the initial criteria on the application, and are considered for further interviews regarding a spot on the home makeover show. If you make it to this stage, a producer or production assistant will contact you by phone or e-mail and specify exactly what they require for video clips. Be sure to adhere to these specifications precisely.
Facilitate additional communications you are required to make, and then be prepared to play the waiting game. This can last for weeks at best and months at the longest.
