How to Volunteer for Extreme Home Makeover

One of the noblest things anyone can do is to volunteer their time for a deserving cause. The popular ABC network show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" requires hundreds of volunteers for each new home that is built for a deserving family. Sometimes there are more volunteers than the show can use and volunteers may be turned away. But there are some shifts that offer a greater chance of you being accepted as a volunteer for.

Instructions

    • 1

Pay attention to local media outlets for announcements that Extreme Makeover Home Edition is coming to do a show. The reality show partners with a local building contractor who will alert the news media and put out press releases giving location and dates. The building contractor puts up information on their website too.

    • 2

Volunteer at the work site only if you are 18 years old or older.

    • 3

Show up at least 20 minutes before a new shift begins. Starting at 12:00 a.m., a new shift begins every four hours. Volunteers are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Factor in time for parking and walking to the work site.

    • 4

Show up to volunteer fully dressed in appropriate work site clothes wearing shoes or boots.

    • 5

Volunteer for an overnight shift for a better chance of being chosen as a volunteer. These overnight shifts are harder for the show's coordinator to find volunteers for.

    • 6

Fill out the "Volunteer and Appearance" release form. The forms are at the work site. This form must be filled out before being able to work one of the shifts.
