Check out competitors. Now, consumers have a choice of who to purchase cable services from. In New York, this would be Verizon, DirecTV and Dish Network. Contact the customer service departments of these companies and compare rates.
If you are already a subscriber, contact Cablevision and state your intention to leave. Often cable companies will make offers to keep customers. If this is not successful initially, then ask to speak with a supervisor. Do not accept the first offer, but bargain and try to lower the price.
Bundle the services by adding phone and/or. Cablevision offers a package of cable, Internet and phone for a reduced price. Usually it is only for new customers, but if you ask you may be able to get the rate.
Call the cable company and tell them you want to cancel. Try to get the very best offer you can from the associate, and if that is not good enough, speak to a manager to get an even better deal.
