Instructions

    • 1

Find the phone number for your cable TV service provider - it will be on your bills. Call your service provider and talk to them about ways to reduce your monthly bill. They will likely be accommodating, as they want to keep you as a customer.

Call your TV provider, and select the "Cancel Service" option from the automated menu. This will usually connect you with a sales representative who is trained to "save" accounts. Since the company has an interest in keeping you as a customer, the rep will offer you the lower rates and packages that they have available but don't advertise. Tell the rep that you simply must lower your cable rate, otherwise you'll have to disconnect the service. Ask the rep about any ultra-cheap packages they have available for new or existing customers. The representative should quickly offer you some options at this point; write them down as they are listed, including the expiration dates of the offers, so that when they expire you can call in again and repeat the whole process to get your rate lowered again.

Switch your current TV package to the "Basic" package. Call your TV service provider and inquire about this service package.

Consider "bundling" your services. If you have cable TV, Internet and phone service from one company, you may want to consider getting a bundled service package that can save money over three separate services, sometimes with savings between ten to twenty percent on your monthly bill.
