How to Watch American Videos in Canada

All DVDs have an imprinted region on the disc. When playing the DVD, you must have a DVD player that matches the region (or is region free). If you don't, you are unable to watch the movie. Thankfully, both the United States and Canada use region 1 (the only two countries that do so), allowing you to watch movies purchased from the U.S.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the back packaging of the DVD. Make sure the DVD states it is printed in the United States and is region 1. Oftentimes DVDs are produced in Europe or Japan (region 2), which do not play in your DVD player.

    • 2

Open the drive to the DVD player, then insert the "Made in U.S.A." DVD. Close the DVD drive and wait for the DVD's main menu to load onto the screen.

    • 3

Press "Play" on the DVD player and the video begins to play on your Canadian DVD player.
