How to Transfer HI8 Videos to DVD

With new advancements in technology you are sometimes forced to update the medium you are working with. Rapid change has taken place in the last few decades for formats in the at-home movie industry. That being said, you may still have some Hi8 video tapes that are now old and outdated. Luckily, because of advancements made in home computing, you can now transfer your Hi8 videos to DVD in only a few simple steps.

  • USB or firewire video cable

      Connect your Hi8 camcorder to your computer using a USB or firewire cable. Insert the audio/video end of the cable into your Hi8 camcorder. Connect the USB or firewire side of the cable into the USB or firewire port of your computer. Turn your camcorder on.

      Upload your video to your computer using a video editing program. Many computers come with video editing software already installed, such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie, and are easy enough for most people to use. Open a new project in your video program and save it to your computer. Press record in the video editing program and then press play on your camcorder. The video will upload in real time to your computer.

      Go to the file menu bar tab where the "Burn to DVD" option is located. Click this option and your computer will ask you to choose a couple of burn settings and ask you to insert a blank DVD. Once you insert the blank DVD your computer will begin burning your video to the DVD.
