How to Donate Used DVDs

Selling your used DVDs may not be worth the trouble given the large number of used copies available and the suppressed market price. An alternative is to donate your used DVDs to charity, youth groups or individuals. Before making the donation, consider if the content is appropriate for the end user. If donating to a nonprofit or charity, be sure to ask for a donation receipt. Charitable gifts are tax deductible.

Instructions

    • 1

Donate your used DVDs to a homeless shelter or a battered women's shelter. In many cities, United Way serves as a drop-off point for shelters throughout the region.

    • 2

Call charities that provide pickup service for used items. These groups include Goodwill, Salvation Army, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

    • 3

Offer your used DVDs to the local library. Most local libraries will take DVDs as long as they are in good condition and not stolen. Libraries will also take your books on CD, books on tape and music CDs.

    • 4

Advertise your used DVDs under the "Free" section on Craigslist or on Freecycle. You can specify if you want the person to come pick up the DVDs or if you will drop them off.
