How to Donate a Used VHS

If you have a pile of old movies on VHS and perhaps even an outdated VHS player gathering dust in your home, it may be time to get rid of them. But instead of simply gathering up all this outdated technology and putting it in the trash, consider donating it to an organization that will continue to make good use of it. Many charities will eagerly accept used, but still functional, pieces of technology.

Instructions

    • 1

Compile a list of potential charities that could make use of used VHS tapes and VCRs, and include a contact phone number or email address for each. This list could include the United Way, the Boys and Girls Club, children's hospitals, shelters that serve families, libraries and elementary schools.

    • 2

Contact your local chapter of the United Way and inquire about whether they will accept your used VCR and VHS tapes. Provide a list of the movies you have available and allow them to decide which movies they want. Arrange a time at which you can deliver the used items. If in-person delivery is not possible, obtain the charity's mailing address and mail the items.

    • 3

Contact your nearest chapter of the Boys and Girls Club and inquire about whether they will accept your used VCR and VHS movies. Just as you did with the United Way, list the movies you have available and arrange a time at which you can deliver them.

    • 4

Contact your local children's hospital, library branch, family shelter and/or elementary school. Inquire as to whether they are interested in your items, and arrange a time for delivery.
