How to Start an Internet Television Show

      Download and install the free windows media encoder to your computer. Restart your computer and open Windows Media Encoder. Select "Broadcast a Live Event" from the Encoder's "New Session Wizard." When prompted by Encoder, set whether your audio and video devices are separate or combined (if your web camera has a built-in microphone you will indicate that your video and audio sources are combined). Choose "Pull from the Encoder" when prompted by the New Session Wizard to pick how you want to broadcast your encoded content.

      Select the port that users will access your live broadcast through. When prompted, select the "Find Free Port" button. Locate your HTTP port number by looking in the field marked "URL for Internet Connectors" within the New Session Wizard and find your port number separated by a colon from your IP address. Enter the four-digit number after the colon in the "HTTP port" field. Ensure the right IP address is entered in the "URL for Internet Connectors" field by looking it up online. Enter the IP address in the field. Make sure to include your port number at the end of your IP address, separated by a colon.

      Open your Internet router's access options by opening a new Internet browser window and pasting your router's IP address into the address field. Enter your login information and password when prompted and select "security settings." Select the option to open your port to public access by other computers located outside of your network. If you don't know your router's IP address, click "start" from your desktop menu, then "run" then type "cmd" and press the return key on your keyboard. Look for a set of numbers after the words "default gateway address" which is your Internet router's IP address.

      Configure how you will encode your broadcast. Base your decision on your computer's processing speed. Unless you have an extremely powerful computer, you should select "low-quality encoding." Start at the lowest quality possible and slowly work your way up in quality until you find the optimum level for your computer's performance. Determine which aspect, audio or video, is most important to your show and raise the quality on one or the other.

      Record your television show content and upload it to your computer. Save the video file on your desktop or another location of your choosing. Choose to add a welcome screen, screens for pauses or commercial breaks and end credits, if desired, from the Encoder's New Session Wizard. Click "complete" to begin broadcasting your television show content on the Internet. Embed your show on a web page by using the Encoder's self-explanatory embed tag function and give the web address to those you want to invite to watch the show. Publicize your show on your Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets as well as through email to attract viewers.
