Select your movie online at Redbox.com. Since Redbox kiosks insist that you enter a valid email address to rent a movie, and since they match up your credit card with the email address you provide, it is easy to get an online account. Just visit the site and choose a password. Once you activate an account, you can choose your movies from any kiosk near you and reserve the movies you would like to pick up. At the kiosk, select the option "Pick Up Online Rentals" from the homescreen, swipe your card, and your pre-selected movies are automatically dispensed.
Coordinate your movie pick-up with your grocery store run. Since many grocery stores and pharmacies have installed Redbox kiosks, you can kill two birds with one stone and pick up your movie with your prescription or with your dinner. If a line has already formed at the beginning of your trip, just pick up your movie on the way out. That way you're getting other errands done instead of standing around waiting for someone else to select a movie.
Rent and return your movies at off-peak times. Redbox rentals are due at 9 p.m., otherwise the company charges an additional fee to the renter's credit card. On a busy night, the line to return movies can start at 8 p.m. or earlier at a prominent kiosk. Since many people rent movies on their way home from work, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is a high-traffic window in general. Avoid this time frame by renting or returning films on the way to work or during your lunch break.
Use your smart phone to rent movies on the go. If you do find yourself in a line for renting a Redbox movie, you can select your film while you're waiting instead of crossing your fingers that someone in front of you does not beat you to the punch. When it is your turn to use the kiosk, simply press the "Pick Up Online Rental" option and swipe your card just as you would if you had rented from your computer at home.
Sign up for Redbox emails. The default action once you have activated your account will be to receive regular Redbox emails telling you about new movies to rent. While you may grow tired of seeing them in your email inbox, they are a great reminder to rent your movie on movie night. The emails keep you informed about new releases, provide trailers for current films and even have links to movie reviews.
