How to Make a Felt Storyboard
Making a homemade felt storyboard is a wise way to create an essential cinematic tool. While not a part of the finished product, a storyboard helps filmmakers outline the visual components of a scene. Drawings of what a scene will look on film are positioned on the board. Each drawing includes a short caption and scene number for organizational purposes. Storyboards are necessary to assemble and focus a scene so that filmmakers know exactly what they are looking to accomplish while shooting. Journalists also employ storyboards to put together the content of an article piece-by-piece.
- 36-by-36-inch shipping box cardboard (2 pieces)
- Permanent epoxy
- 38-by-38-inch piece of felt
- 9 push pins

Bond two pieces of 36-by-36-inch shipping box cardboard together with permanent epoxy. The storyboard backing is now created.

Place the backing atop a 38-by-38-inch piece of felt. Pull the top lip of the felt taut and over the top edge of the backing. Bond the lip to the backside of the backing with permanent epoxy. Continue this process to pull and bond the three additional felt lips. The felt covering is now attached.

Insert nine push pins into the front of the story board to hold each image in place. The felt presents an aesthetically pleasing look to the board and a soft surface on which the storyboard images will attach. The 36-by-36-inch story board can fit up to nine 12-by-12-inch storyboard images at one time.
