Choose the felt or fabric colors for your owl decorations. Use natural owl colors such as brown, gray and white for more realistic versions. Use assorted colors and patterns for more whimsical owls.
Use a picture or photo of an owl as a guide to make your decorative owl. Draw a large circle for the head and a large oval for the body onto the felt or fabric. These two pieces can also be left as one piece if you would like to use the same fabric or felt. Cut these out with a pair of scissors.
Draw the eyes, pupils, beak, feathers, feet and wings onto contrasting or complementary colors and patterns of fabric or felt. Cut out all the pieces of your decorative owl.
Attach the head and body piece by sewing them with a needle and thread or sewing machine. You can also use a glue gun. Attach the remaining pieces of the owl to the head and body. Use black buttons for the pupils of the eyes. If you're making a decorative owl cushion or stuffed animal, trace a single matching piece for the backing. Attach the back to the finished front of the owl, using needle and thread, and stuff the inside with leftover fabric, felt or cotton.
