Draw the shape of a frog’s head and arms with a simple rectangular bottom on a piece of green felt. The drawing should be large enough to cover your hand while the bottom part of the frog ends halfway down your forearm. The head should have two fat cheeks and two half ovals on top for eyes.
Lay the fabric with the frog design on top of another piece of felt. Connect the two pieces of felt using sewing pins. Cut through both panels of fabric to create two sides of the puppet.
Cut a half oval of felt fabric. Glue it to one piece of the felt frog shape with the flat end of the oval half sitting against the bottom edge of the puppet where your hand enters. Glue the fabric in place to work as the frog’s bright underside.
Cut four ovals of felt to make the eyes of the frog. Two pieces should be white and two should be black. The black pieces should be smaller than the white ones to work as the pupil of the eyes.
Glue the eyes in place with the white felt ovals first and the black felt ovals next. Glue them onto the face of the frog in the oval-shaped wells.
Cut two small pieces of black felt for the nostrils of the frog. Make them almond-shaped. Glue them onto the face just below the eyes.
Cut a piece of black yarn and use it to make a smile. Curve it over the face of the puppet and glue it in place.
Sew the two pieces of felt together using thread that matches the color of the felt. Use a handmade straight stitch along the edges of the puppet, a quarter of an inch away from the edges of the puppet.
Slide your hand into the puppet and test it out. Your pinky goes into one hand on the frog while your thumb goes into the other. The remaining three go into the head of the frog.
