Set up your green screen in a spacious room using either a green cloth or green paint. If using a cloth, secure the cloth evenly to a flat surface and stretch it out so wrinkles are not visible. If using paint, sand the wall to smooth it out and apply primer. Allow the primer to dry and paint an even coat of green.
Set up work lights around the room to evenly light the shooting area. Lights should be placed to the left and right of the screen and on the subject facing the screen. No part of the screen should be darker than the rest.
Place a work light above the green screen to shine directly on your subject. Position the photography subject in front of the green screen so its shadow does not show up on the screen.
Play around with the position of your camera. Use a tripod to steady your camera if you need one. Take test shots to ensure your subject and green screen show up well for editing; the area should be shadow-free and the subject should stand out in front of the screen.
