How to Locate the UPC for DVDs

A Universal Product Code is a 12-digit number that appears on packaging to identify different goods. Some goods with UPC barcodes include soda cans, toy packaging and DVDs. It is useful to locate a UPC on a DVD if you want to scan it to find the cost or need to mail it in as a proof of purchase to redeem a rebate. You can also retrieve a UPC for a DVD if you want to look up the code online to find more information about the DVD.

Instructions

    • 1

Retrieve the DVD that you want to locate the UPC for.

    • 2

Turn the DVD over so the back is showing. The back of the DVD will have information about the DVD, such as the rating, special features and the UPC barcode.

    • 3

Locate the barcode box on the back of the DVD. The barcode box is white and has a series of vertical black lines. The 12-digit number beneath the barcode is the UPC. The code includes one smaller number to the left of the bar code, 10 larger digits and one smaller number to the right of the barcode. Now that you have the UPC for the DVD, you can scan it to find out how much it costs or cut the UPC off to redeem a rebate or special offer.
