Download a free and install a free DVD software program.
Click into the template to start creating. Import pictures, text, or draw on the template yourself. Often these programs will adjust the pictures to the correct size of the front or back cover. If the program doesn't do this, you may have to crop or resize your pictures first.
Open the photo in a picture editing program to crop or resize. Even standard drawing programs will allow you to edit photos. Click the crop or resize button and position the cursor where you want to crop, by clicking and dragging. Do the same thing to resize, only you won't be cutting any of the picture off with resize.
Add text by adding text boxes into the DVD cover field. Write over the top of pictures or drawings. Repeat these steps for each piece of the DVD cover: back side, front side and spine.
Print the DVD cover. Cut the cover from the paper and slide it into an empty DVD case.
Find the midpoint of the length of your paper. It should be at 5 ¼-inches. From this midpoint measure ¼-inch in either direction and mark those points. Draw vertical lines from these points up the height of the paper. Fold the paper back on these lines. This creates the spine of the DVD cover. The larger paper areas are the front and back covers of the DVD cover.
Write the title of the film along the spine or print text from a word processing program and glue it onto the spine.
Color the spine, draw pictures, or print your own pictures and glue them onto the three faces (front cover, back cover and spine).
