Bravo!FACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) offers grants for the production of short films made in Canada. Subjects of the films can cover dance, music, spoken word, opera, animation, visual arts and drama. The grants are rewarded for new projects and pay up to 50 percent of a project’s total cost. Funding ranges from several hundred dollars to a maximum of $25,000. To apply, fill out the application available on Bravo!FACT’s website, and provide all support materials. Deadlines for the grants occur in the spring, fall and winter.

For filmmakers interested in creating public service announcements or other types of non-profit short films, apply for one of Panavision’s grants. The grants include the use of 16 mm or 35 mm motion picture camera equipment for filming in the United States. To apply, you must provide items including a cover letter describing the project as well as shooting schedules, a copy of the script, your budget and resumes and bios of the key people involved in your production. The Kansas Humanities Council rewards grants of up to $10,000 to in-state professional filmmakers who create a short film about a story in Kansas. Grants require that the team of professionals working on the film include the filmmaker, a local community organization, a community consultant and a humanities professional. Upon completion of the movie, a local public screening occurs with the general public invited to the event. Awards support all aspects of the production from research to final editing.
