The Astraea Lesbian Foundation For Justice awards invitation-only grants to women film and video artists with projects that address issues in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities (LGBTI). In 2009, Astraea gave $7,000 to award-winning filmmaker Hanifah Walidah for her documentary “U People.” Nominees are judged by a panel of artists and activists. Once a filmmaker wins a grant, she can apply for a renewal of funds for the next grant cycle.
