How to Make a Chinese Ribbon

According to Chiao Bin Studios, the Chinese ribbon dance began during the Han dynasty and has become an intricate part of rich Chinese culture. The Chinese ribbons are made of long silk that are attached to a wand or stick. The wand is waved through the air, making the ribbon's movement the most important part of the dance. Although you can purchase Chinese ribbons online or through dance studios, you can also make your own out of a few easy materials.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the duster or feathers from the wand by removing the funnel holder at the top of the duster.

    • 2

Pinch the pliers around the metal insert of the duster wand. Pull the insert out.

    • 3

Tie the silk ribbon to the top of the duster --- one inch from the top --- into a tight knot.

    • 4

Thread the ribbon through the funnel holder, and slide the funnel holder back onto the wand. This will ensure that the ribbon stays in place.

    • 5

Pull the ribbon to tighten the knot.
