Do the grapevine. The grapevine is a series of four steps used to travel. To do the grapevine, step to the right, cross the left foot behind the right, step to the right again using the right foot and end with a scuff of the left foot. Complete a scuff by swinging your leg forward with the heel leading and scraping the floor with your heel. End the scuff with the foot slightly lifted off the floor. Grapevine back to the left beginning with a step to the left using your raised left foot. Cross your right foot behind your left, step to the left again with your left foot and scuff with your right heel.
Do the shuffle. The shuffle is a three-step motion used to travel. To shuffle, step forward with your right foot, scoot your left foot up behind your right and scoot your right foot forward again. End with your weight on your right foot. Scooting is done by moving your foot without it leaving the floor. Begin the next shuffle on your left foot by taking a step forward on your left foot, scoot your right foot up behind your right, and scoot your left foot forward again. Shuffles often are completed eight times in a row as a part of a line-dance routine.
Do the stroll. The stroll is a three-step motion used to travel, usually in the diagonal. To do the stroll, step forward with your right foot, cross your left foot behind your right and step forward again with the right. When traveling diagonally, the steps will be done on the diagonal instead of straight forward.
Do the hitch-kick (or kick-ball-change). The hitch-kick is done in place. To do the hitch-kick, kick quickly with your right foot, transfer your weight to the ball of your right foot with the foot next to the left, quickly transfer weight to your left foot, stepping down in place on it. To hitch-kick beginning with your left foot, kick the left foot quickly, transfer your weight to the ball of your left foot with the foot next to the right. Quickly transfer your weight to your right foot, stepping down in place on it.
