Summer Dance Programs for Beginners in Miami

Summer in Miami provides many opportunities for aspiring dancers to begin their studies. Select schools offer programs not available during any other time of the year. Different styles of dance classes are open to beginners in day camps, summer sessions, and specialized programs throughout the city.
  1. Peaches School of Dance

    • Peaches School of Dance opened in 1986 as a small establishment. Now, they are one of the biggest dance schools in Florida, with locations in North Miami Beach, Aventura, Miami Beach and North Miami-Dade County. In the summer months they offer a fine performing arts camp designed for children ages 3 and up. The camp is offered on weekly basis, for $200 per week. Students receive beginner-level instruction in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, drama, and art, from 8:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They take a field trip every Friday, and have weekly performance opportunities.

    Mencia-Pikieris School of Dance

    • The Mencia-Pikieris School of Dance was founded by Marielena Mencia and Yanis Pikierisoffers in 1996. While the school offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and contemporary jazz, there is an emphasis on classical ballet. Their summer ballet program for teens, ages 12 and up, in intended for teens who have little or no ballet experience. Each session is 4 weeks long, with classes Tuesday and Thursday evening, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., costing $100.

    YMCA of Greater Miami

    • The YMCA of Greater Miami's summer program, The YMCA Dance Team, is offered for children between the ages of 5 and 15. The classes are divided by age into two groups, which meet twice weekly for 50 minutes. In the classes, children are introduced to hip hop, salsa, samba, ballet and modern dance. The program runs for just over one month, in two different sessions, and costs $65 for facility members and $100 for community members.
