Summer Dance Programs for Kids

Summer dance programs provide a way for kids to get exercise, build artistic creativity and keep busy. Many summertime dance programs are camp-based, taking place over a week or two in a specific part of the country. While some are more rigorous and geared toward more experienced dancers, some are for kids at all skill levels. There are also local options offered by rec centers and dance studios. These programs typically offer weekly classes in specific dance styles.
  1. Camp Broadway

    • For parents wanting a short-term camp or travel-based dance program, Camp Broadway provides a five-day camp for kids in New York City, with sessions in July and August. Activities include singing and dancing. Kids learn choreography from actual Broadway performers. This is a good option for kids who want to focus on musical theater and Broadway-style dance. Locally Based Dance Programs

    • For parents looking for less intensive, non-camp based or local options, various dance studios, recreation centers and even churches offer summer dance classes for kids. Franchise programs like Kinderdance focus on early-childhood education through dance. These companies have dance instructors who travel to preschools, rec centers and other childcare centers to teach thirty-minute to one-hour courses. Check with your local recreation and childcare centers to inquire about these programs. For more information on Kinderdance, see Kinderdance.com.
