How to Teach the Electric Slide

The Electric Slide is the dance that goes to the song "The Electric Boogie" by Marcia Griffiths. Ever since the '90s, this dance has been an international hit. The Electric Slide is a simple dance. People usually learn it quickly because it consists of four parts that repeat in a cycle until the song ends. It takes no time to learn and is trouble-free to teach.

Instructions

  1. The Electric Slide

    • 1

Dance the Electric Slide in front of your student. Play music to help him get familiar with the rhythm. Once you break down the steps, however, you may want to turn the music off as it might be a distraction. Also, do not teach the dance to the same speed as the music since it would be too fast. Make sure the student is comfortable.

    • 2

Start out by moving three steps to the right. Count out each step to help the

Electric Slide student. On the second step when the legs cross, show him that you cross your left leg behind the right. Each part will have a step where you bring your feet together at the end. Because this is optional, the student can decide whether he wants to add it or not.

    • 3

Move three steps to the left, showing him this is the opposite of Step 1. Step out with left leg, cross right behind left and then step out with left again. Check to see if he ends up on his left foot so the transition into the next step will be smooth.

    • 4

Move three steps backwards, starting on your right foot. Once again, it is important the student finishes this step on the right foot.

    • 5

Slow down with this step since it is the most difficult. Lean forward on your left foot while bringing your right one next to it. Then lean back as you move your right foot to its previous position. Make a quarter turn to your left while hopping on your left leg once. Stop here. Do not jump to the beginning again until this part is perfected. Once it is, repeat the entire dance. Then add music.
