How to Learn the ChaCha Slide Dance

From weddings to birthdays to proms, the cha cha slide dance has become a favorite for getting even the most timid person on his feet. An updated version of the electric slide, the cha cha slide incorporates greater movement and more attention to rhythm. Created by Mr. C, (DJ Casper), the cha cha slide began as a song of the same name. Although it may be slightly more complicated than the electric slide, the cha cha slide's simple movements make it a crowd favorite and a dance relatively easy to pick up.

Instructions

    • 1

"To the left, take it back now ya'll" -- Take two steps to the left, making sure your right leg crosses behind your left with the first step and then touches the side of your left for the second. Then take two steps back, moving your right leg, then your left. Then touch your right foot with your left so that your feet are together.

    • 2

"One hop this time, right foot let's stomp, left foot let's stomp, cha cha now ya'll" -- Hop in place, then raise and stomp your right foot, then do the same with your left. When "Cha Cha now ya'll" is called, do a box step by stepping with your right foot over your left, then taking one step back with your left foot. Then move your right foot back to its original position, take one step up and touch your right foot with your left (all together forming a box shape).

    • 3

"Turn it out" or "Let's go to work" -- Make a slight turn to your left and do a grapevine step by taking one step to the right with your right foot, moving your left foot across your right, then take another step with your right foot. End with your left foot touching your right so they are side by side.

    • 4

"Clap" and "Kriss Kross" -- While in place, clap 16 times along with the music. When "Kriss Kross" is called, jump twice. For the first jump, cross your right leg over your left, or vice versa. For the second jump, reverse the order.

    • 5

"Slide to the left," "Slide to the right" and "How Low Can You Go" -- Take a step to the left and slide your right foot to touch your left. Do the same for the "slide to the right" section, but this time step with your right foot and slide your left. Then do a twist-style motion toward the ground, or limbo if you prefer.

    • 6

"Bring it to the top," "Hands on your knees" -- After doing the limbo or twisting to the ground, rise back up with your hands in the air. Cross your arms, place your hands on your knees and bounce to the rhythm.

    • 7

"Charlie Brown" and "Freeze" --There are many ways to do the "Charlie Brown" part of the dance. One is to do a "jazz jump" by jumping to your left and then to your right. After jumping, freeze your pose and show some "attitude."
