How to Do the Windmill Step-by-Step

The windmill is one of the great moves of breakdancing. Not only is it impressive, but it provides a great work out. It tones your entire body, especially your abs. Whether you're looking for a good workout or want to add to your breakdance moves, the windmill is an excellent choice.

Instructions

    • 1

Lie down on your stomach with your legs in a V-shape behind you. Arch your back toward the floor so your legs are raised as far into the air above you as you can get them.

    • 2

Push yourself over onto your left shoulder. Your right leg should be high in the air while the left leg still forms a V-shape with the right but doesn't quite touch the floor.

    • 3

Roll onto your back while sweeping your left leg to the side so when you are completely on your back your legs are spread in a V in front of you. Hold your legs as high in the air as you can.

    • 4

Roll onto your stomach, letting your right leg swing under you as you roll so you end with both legs in the air, still forming a V-shape.

    • 5

Practice these moves until you can do them easily, the move on to doing this dance move quickly. Start with your right hand in front of you, your legs raised behind you as you practiced in Step 1 and your left arm positioned so your elbow is against your stomach.

    • 6

Raise the left leg higher than the right, bending your knee so your face is closer to the floor.

    • 7

Swing your right leg around in a powerful kick so that your body twists and your left leg crosses under the right. This is where you will roll over onto your left shoulder, still keeping your face close to the ground. You will continue to roll, if you kicked hard enough, onto your back.

    • 8

Roll onto your hands as your legs swing around and land on your hands, legs in the air behind you again. Repeat from Step 7 and continue repeating as many times as you want.
