How to Do the Windmill When Break Dancing

Break dancing is a dance art form that has been around for generations, making its debut on the mainstream scene in the 1970's in the form of b-boying or breaking, dancing on the streets. While a great deal of break dance is improvised and releative to the performer, there are also integral elements common throughout break dancing performances. One acrobatic element that is a staple of break dancing is the windmill move. A spinning move performed on the dancer's back as his legs twirl him about reminiscent of a windmill.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a push-up position, then shift your body's weight onto your hands, with your left hand bearing the brunt of the weight. Your legs and feet should be extended above the ground. (Called the "hand spin" position).

    • 2

Hold legs out extended, like a "Y," and remove the right hand from the ground. Raise your left leg higher and roll onto your back.

    • 3

Roll across your back to turn over and return to the starting hand spin position. Your legs should always be extended apart, creating the "windmill" look to the move.

    • 4

Repeat the motion, moving more quickly through it as you get more comfortable.
