Fun & Easy Crafts to Do at Home

Making crafts is a great way of keeping your kids and yourself entertained for hours. There are so many fun and easy crafts to choose from, including making itemsyou can wear, crafts you can play with and even crafting useful items such as candles and soap. Most of the materials you need to make these crafts are already in your home. All you need is a little time and imagination and you're on your way to creating many interesting things.
  1. Tie Dye

    • There are many things that you can tie dye, including T-shirts, socks and bandanas--anything made of cotton. You'll need some rubber bands, a bucket and fabric dye. Wrap what you choose to dye with rubber bands in any pattern that you wish. Usually, the dye is poured into a bucket of warm water then you dip your shirt in the dye for about 20 minutes. Read the directions on the dye before starting the project. To use different colors, have several buckets, allowing you to dip different parts of the shirt into different colors. When done dying, squeeze out the excess water, run the shirt under cold water, remove the rubber bands, and let the shirt hang to dry.

    Seashell Tea Candles

    • To make seashell tea candles, you'll need seashells which you can buy from an arts and crafts store and some tea light candles in various colors. These candles can be found in any supermarket or drugstore as well as in crafts stores. Remove the candle from the metal container, then remove the wick from the candle. Place the wicks in the center of the seashells. Melt the candles in a double boiler and when completely melted, slowly pour the wax into the shells. Allow the candles to cool before you use them. Place candles on a plate with sand or stones to protect the table, as the wax can spill over when it melts from the lit flame.

    Oatmeal Soap

    • You only need three ingredients to make oatmeal soup -- oatmeal, water and soap. Choose soap that you can easily shave such as Ivory or Dove. Shave the whole bar and place the shavings in a bowl with about 5 tablespoons of water; melt it in the microwave for a few minutes. Add honey to the mixture if you wish. Add a few tablespoons of chopped or ground oatmeal and carefully mix with a spoon. Use as much oatmeal as you want depending on the consistency that you want your soap to have. Pour the mixture into a mold and allow it to cool for several hours before use.

    Play Dough

    • Play dough is fun and easy to make and can keep kids busy for hours. Mix 2 cups flour, 4 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1 cup salt, 2 cups boiling water and 2 tablespoon of cooking oil in a bowl. Knead the mixture well, then divide it into several pieces. Add a few drops of food coloring to each piece. Knead the separate pieces again until the food coloring is absorbed. When wrapped in plastic wrap, this recipe can keep in the refrigerator for about three weeks.
