Fun Scooby Doo Arts & Crafts

"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" first hit the airwaves on Sept. 13, 1969, in the CBS Saturday morning cartoon block. The show was such a hit, it ran in various formats with new episodes over the next 22 years. Still popular with children, use Scooby-Doo arts and crafts activities in the classroom, for after-school programs or as birthday party activities.
  1. Pin-the-Tail on Scooby!

    • This arts and crafts activity also turns into a game for children to play. After printing an image of Scooby-Doo, poke small holes with a pin along each line in the drawing. (Do this prior to giving to young children if they're working on the craft project.) Next, cut the exterior lines of the Scooby image using a pair of scissors making a template Place the template on a piece of poster board and trace around the template using a pencil. Tracethe interior lines using a brown pencil so it matches the color of his body when later filled in. Next, cut out your Scooby shape from the poster board. Color in Scooby using colored pencils, markers or paint. Stick to the colors of the original printout or use an online image as a reference. Next, cut off Scooby's tail using your scissors. This serves as a tail template Next, trace the tail template on scrap pieces of poster-board several times and cut those out. Color or paint each tail template the same color you painted Scooby's body. Tack up the Scooby-Doo cut-out you made and play "Pin-the-Tail on Scooby" with your students or friends.

    Scooby-Doo Mask

    • There are various templates available online and at craft stores for Scooby-Doo masks. Some are more complex than others, however they all have the same basic concept. Trace the shape of the mask on a piece of paper, brown paper bag or piece of thick card stock. Cut out the template and decorate it using the Scooby-Doo colors. Some masks require stapling elastic bands to the side of the mask. These fasten around the ears to make sure the mask stays in place. If the elastics sound uncomfortable, trace the mask template onto a paper plate. After painting or coloring, then glue a craft stick to the bottom of the mask. That way the mask is simply held in front of the face instead of worn.

    Scooby-Doo Ornament

    • Ensure Scooby spends Christmas on the tree each year by making an ornament. Locate a basic salt or cornstarch dough recipe. These usually consist of about a 4-to-1 ratio of flour to salt with one to one and a half parts water added in as well. After combining the ingredients and forming a dough, roll it out until it's about 1/4 inch thick. Next, use Scooby-Doo cookie cutters to cut Scooby shapes from the dough. Using a knife, place a small hole near the top of Scooby where ribbon will later be placed so it hangs from a tree. Bake the cookies at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 1/2 hour. After the cookies cool, use acrylic paints and paint on Scooby faces. Finally, attach a piece of ribbon through the hole you made prior to baking.

    Scooby-Doo Pumpkin

    • Create a Scooby-Doo carved pumpkin to greet guests on Halloween. After printing a template online, secure it to the front of your pumpkin using tape. Next, using your pumpkin carving tools, poke small holes through the template along each line of the drawing. Once you remove the template, the outline of Scooby should now be clearly visible. Next, cut open the top of the pumpkin and removes all of the seeds as you normally would any pumpkin you crave. Finally, using your carving knife, carve away pieces of pumpkin following the template you created on the pumpkin as a guide. Place a lit candle inside and the pumpkin is ready for display.
