Cut wine bottles in half and use the tops for tapered candle holders. Make sure to sand any sharp or rough edges. Put them face down on a clear glass plate as a base. Use the bottoms to hold medium-size pillar candles. Hand-paint or stencil art work on the glass. Make the design small, simple and eloquent using one contrasting color against the glass. Create them in pairs for your home or use them as gifts.
Use the no-flame pillar glass in the bottom half of the bottle and you can decorate the glass with pine needles. Run each pine needle through clear drying glue and do an intricate design of a pine tree using just the needles and a thin twig for the trunk. Apply the needles with tweezers. Use your imagination for other applications on both halves of the bottle, such as gems, beads, and even small seashells.
Build an outside wall using beer bottles instead of stones or bricks. These works of art make a great border for gardens, patio areas and walkways. Place the bottles in cement with the bottom side showing on the side of the wall that will be seen most. A two- of three-foot wall will not only make a great border, but a recycled conversation piece.
Make the wall more interesting and break up some of the beer bottles to use as mosaic pieces laid into the cement around the bottles and along the top. Another variation of this artwork would be to make a bench for sitting in your yard with the beer bottles and mosaic as a foundation and a wooden planked top.
Slice wine bottles and beer bottles into rings about 1 1/2-inch thick and use the pieces to make an artistic wind chime. Sand down the sides until they are smooth. Drill a small hole in the center of the rings band to place clear fishing line through. String three or four of the pieces of glass through one length of string and hang six lengths together off a round metal washer. Pick up the largest one that you can find at your local home or hardware store. Tie three pieces of fishing line to the ring arranged in a triangle and affix those to a smaller washer as the hanger. Not only will the sparkling glass be a thing of beauty, but it will supply you with soothing sounds each time the wind blows.
