How to Make a Peace Dove

Doves are a universal symbol of peace, and hanging origami peace doves around a classroom can be a fun activity for students as well as an opportunity to teach them about the historical interpretation of doves as peace offerings and symbols. These peace doves can also be hung around houses or places of work to inspire an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. You can use colored paper to give the peace doves an artistic or vibrant feel. Homemade peace doves can also be given as small gifts or presents to friends and family members.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of paper into a square shape.

    • 2

Fold the square piece in half, then unfold it and lay it flat on the table.

    • 3

Take the two corners from the same side, and fold them so that they touch the center crease. Fold the paper in half with the corners tucked inside.

    • 4

Take the top edge, and fold it left, then right, creasing it both times. Push the top fold of the head down. This will become the head of the dove.

    • 5

Draw a triangle sliver on both lower sides, and cut out the sliver shape you drew. These will become the wings of the peace dove.

    • 6

Fold up the the wings. The peace dove can be colored, hung, or left as is.
